Memorial Volumes to Jewish Communities Destroyed in the Holocaust by Ilana Tahan,
Memorial volumes are books dedicated to cities, towns and villages, mainly in Central and Eastern Europe, whose Jewish populations were annihilated during the Holocaust. Published by organisations of Jewish survivors since the early 1940s, their chief aim is to commemorate and record for posterity the history of the localities before the Second World War, the events that led to their destruction and the fate of the individuals who inhabited them. This fully indexed bibliography brings together for the very first time some 300 memorial books drawn mainly from the wide ranging Hebrew collection of the British Library. In the main sequence of the work, entries are arranged in place name order and each includes a copious bibliographic description and references to relevant sources. The titles of individual books appear both in Hebrew script and Roman transliteration. An essential reference aid to research libraries and students concerned with Jewish history and genealogy.
